Dharma Megha Samadhi — The Cloud of Dharma Samadhi
Dharma Megha Samadhi — the 'cloud that rains righteousness' — is the penultimate samadhi state, immediately preceding Kaivalya, in which virtue floods the yogi like rain from a cloud, purifying the last residues of karmic bondage.
Sutra 4.29 introduces Dharma Megha Samadhi: the yogi who, even in the highest discrimination, has no interest in its fruits because of the Viveka prajna — for such a one, the Dharma Megha samadhi arises. The image is evocative: a cloud (megha) of Dharma (righteousness, virtue, the sacred order) rains down and saturates consciousness. All kleshas dissolve; all actions lose their potency as seeds of future karma; the light of prajna illuminates everything. This is the threshold state immediately before Kaivalya — the final flowering of decades of sincere practice. Sutra 4.30 states the consequence: 'tatah klesha karma nivrittih' — from this, the cessation of kleshas and karma.
For one who has no interest even in the fruits of discrimination, the cloud of dharma samadhi arises.
Scholar Georg Feuerstein describes Dharma Megha Samadhi as 'the pinnacle of the cognitive samadhis, from whose vantage point the transcendental wisdom of Kaivalya becomes directly accessible' — the last stop before the train of liberation arrives at its final destination.
