Weaving as Story

Traditional weaving that encodes meaning in pattern and process.

Woven objects - baskets, bags, fish traps - are created with techniques passed down for generations. The patterns encode stories and the process itself is meditative practice. Weaving connects the weaver to ancestors who used the same techniques.

Each strand I weave connects me to my grandmother and her grandmother before her.

Weaver's Teaching, Oral Tradition

Weaving transmits culture through technique as much as product.
