Chyawanprash — The Immortality Preserve
Chyawanprash is Ayurveda's most celebrated polyherbal Rasayana formulation — a fruit-and-herb jam containing up to 49 ingredients whose combined synergistic action rebuilds tissues, enhances immunity, and promotes longevity.
Chyawanprash is perhaps the oldest documented Rasayana formulation — described in the Charaka Samhita as the preparation given to the sage Chyavana to restore his youth. It is a complex polyherbal jam (avaleha) with Amalaki as the primary base, combined with up to 48 other herbs, ghee, honey, sesame oil, and sugar. The precise combination is designed for synergistic enhancement: each herb amplifies the action of the others, and the delivery medium (ghee, honey) ensures bioavailability. In clinical terms, Chyawanprash has been validated as an immune-modulator, respiratory protectant, anti-oxidant, and adaptogen. Clinical studies have shown it increases NK cell activity, reduces frequency of upper respiratory tract infections, improves lung function parameters, and enhances hemoglobin levels. It remains one of the most commercially successful Ayurvedic preparations globally.
Chyawanprash restores youth to the aged, gives intelligence, memory, and immunity against all disease.
A 2010 clinical trial in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology showed that Chyawanprash significantly enhanced NK cell activity, T-cell proliferation, and macrophage function in healthy adults, confirming its immunomodulatory action. Its vitamin C content (from Amalaki) is among the highest of any food supplement.
