Bahá'í Faith

Divine Attributes

Though God's essence is unknowable, we encounter the divine through manifest attributes: love, justice, mercy, wisdom, and power.

The Bahá'í writings teach that while God's essence is beyond grasp, divine attributes are knowable and imitable. By developing love, justice, wisdom, compassion, and generosity within ourselves, we mirror the divine attributes in the human world. Human spiritual development consists largely in embodying these attributes more fully.

Manifold the revelations of His truth, and yet the secrets of His essence are forever veiled.
