Obedience to Government
Bahá'ís are called to be exemplary citizens, obeying legitimate government laws while working for their improvement through legitimate means.
The Bahá'í writings call for obedience to legitimate government as part of contributing to social order. Bahá'ís do not engage in partisan politics or fomenting revolution. Instead, they contribute to social improvement through education, service, and the example of communities that model the principles of justice and unity.
Conflict and contention are categorically forbidden in His Book.
Bahá'í civic engagement without partisan politics represents a distinctive approach to the relationship between religion and government.
