Prohibition of Slavery
Slavery in all its forms violates the fundamental principle of the oneness of humanity and must be abolished.
The Bahá'í Faith explicitly prohibits slavery from its earliest texts. Bahá'u'lláh wrote in the 19th century, before the abolition of slavery in many countries, that humans may not own other humans. The principle of human oneness admits no slavery — any system treating humans as property violates divine law.
O Ye Children of Men! Know ye not why We created you all from the same dust?
The Bahá'í abolition of slavery in the 19th century was a radical position that placed the Faith ahead of many governments and religions on this fundamental human rights question.
