Bahá'í Faith

Voluntary Giving and the Huququ'llah

After meeting necessary expenses, Bahá'ís are called to pay Huququ'llah — the Right of God — a tithe that funds the work of the Cause.

Huququ'llah (Right of God) is a form of tithe prescribed by Bahá'u'lláh: after meeting necessary expenses and maintaining a modest reserve, Bahá'ís calculate nineteen percent of their remaining wealth and pay it to the central institution of the Faith for use in service to humanity. This voluntary law is considered a spiritual privilege.

Huququ'llah is indeed a great law. It is incumbent upon all to make this offering.

Bahá'u'lláh, Huququ'llah

Huququ'llah represents a sophisticated integration of personal spiritual discipline with systemic resource redistribution for the common good.
