Bhagavad Gita

The Hair-Raising Wonder

Thus I have heard this wonderful dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna, causing my hair to stand on end.

Sanjaya, who has narrated the dialogue to blind King Dhritarashtra, expresses his own response: profound wonder that causes physical reaction. The Gita is not merely informative but transformative, affecting even the narrator. This reminds us that sacred teaching carries power—it is not neutral information but charged with spiritual energy that affects all who encounter it.

Sanjaya said: Thus have I heard the conversation of two great souls, Krishna and Arjuna. And so wonderful is that message that my hair is standing on end.

Sanjaya, Bhagavad Gita 18.74

The narrator's response models ours—the Gita should not leave us unchanged. If we truly hear, we are moved to our depths.
