Danu - The Great Mother
The primordial goddess who is mother of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the tribes of the goddess Danu.
Danu is the great mother goddess from whom the Tuatha Dé Danann take their name. She is associated with rivers (the Danube bears her name), with the land itself, and with the waters of life. She represents the feminine source of all existence.
From Danu all the gods descend; to her all rivers return.
Danu represents the Celtic understanding of the divine feminine as the source of gods and life.
