Celtic Wisdom

Dream Incubation

The practice of seeking prophetic or healing dreams through ritual preparation.

Celtic seers would prepare for prophetic dreams through fasting, darkness, and ritual. Sleeping wrapped in bull-hide, or beside sacred waters, they would seek visions in sleep. Dreams were considered communications from the Otherworld and were taken seriously.

In the darkness of sleep, the Otherworld speaks most clearly.

Traditional, Irish Tradition

Dream incubation shows Celtic understanding of sleep as a portal to spiritual knowledge.
