The Leaven
The Kingdom of God works invisibly but transforms everything it touches from within.
Yeast mixed into flour invisibly permeates the entire batch until all is leavened. The Kingdom works quietly, without fanfare, gradually transforming individuals, communities, and cultures. Unlike political revolutions that impose change from outside, Kingdom transformation works from within. A small amount of yeast changes vastly more flour. This parable encourages patience when change seems slow and faithfulness in small, hidden acts that compound over time. The Kingdom's influence is often invisible until the transformation is complete.
The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.
Dallas Willard described the Kingdom as 'the range of God's effective will'—wherever God's will is done, the Kingdom is present and transforming.
