Do Everything Without Grumbling
Cheerful obedience without complaint reflects spiritual maturity and trust in God.
Paul instructs, 'Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure.' Complaining reveals a heart that doesn't trust God's providence or submit to His will. The Israelites' grumbling in the wilderness became a negative example for all time. By contrast, contentment in all circumstances marks mature faith. This teaching doesn't suppress legitimate grievances but addresses the chronic complaint that poisons relationships and erodes joy. Gratitude and grumbling cannot coexist—cultivate one, and the other dies.
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure.
Thomas à Kempis in 'The Imitation of Christ' taught that inward peace comes from accepting God's will without complaint.
