The Golden Rule

Do not do to others what you would not want done to yourself.

Confucius articulated the negative form of the Golden Rule: 'What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.' This reciprocity (shu) is the practical application of ren in daily interactions.

What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.

Confucius, Analects 15.24

This principle is considered the single thread running through Confucius's teaching.
