The Unity of Virtue

All virtues are unified in the person of ren.

The virtues are not separate but unified. A person of ren embodies all the virtues - righteousness, ritual propriety, wisdom, trustworthiness. Ren is the root from which all virtues grow.

Ren is the root; the other virtues are its branches.

Confucian Teaching, Traditional Interpretation

The virtues form an integrated whole in the exemplary person.
