Yi - Righteousness

Doing what is right and proper in each situation.

Yi is righteousness or moral rightness - doing what one ought to do regardless of personal gain. It involves recognizing the right course of action and having the courage to follow it.

The exemplary person comprehends righteousness; the small person comprehends profit.

Confucius, Analects 4.16

Yi distinguishes the moral person from the selfish person.
