Righteousness should take precedence over personal gain.
The exemplary person prioritizes yi over li (profit). When righteousness and profit conflict, yi must win. Seeking only profit leads to resentment and social breakdown.
If one acts with a view to profit, there will be much resentment.
Profit-seeking without righteousness causes social harm.
