Rectifying the Heart

Correcting and purifying one's emotions and motivations.

Zhengxin (rectifying the heart) means getting one's emotions and motivations right. Anger, fear, pleasure, and sorrow must be appropriate to circumstances. The cultivated heart responds correctly.

When the heart is not rectified, we see but do not perceive, hear but do not understand.
