Hermeticism

Becoming a Cause

Rising above being merely an effect to become a causer.

Most people are moved about like pawns on a chessboard, effects of causes they do not understand. The Hermetist learns to rise to a higher plane of causation, becoming a mover rather than a pawn, a player rather than a piece. This is true mastery.

The Masters obey the Causation of the higher planes, but they help to rule on their own plane.

The Kybalion, The Kybalion, Chapter XII

Becoming a cause requires rising to higher planes through mental and spiritual development.

  • What Hermeticism says about failure

The Kybalion's image is a chessboard: most people are pieces moved by causes they do not understand, and the work is to become a player. Failure is the moment you can most clearly see which of the two you have been.
