Bismillah - Beginning with Allah's Name

The practice of starting every action with 'In the Name of Allah' to invoke divine blessing and protection.

Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) means 'In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.' This phrase begins every chapter of the Quran except one and is recited before eating, drinking, entering homes, and starting any significant task. By invoking Allah's name, the Muslim acknowledges that all actions derive their blessing from Him. The Prophet (PBUH) taught that any action not begun with Bismillah is cut off from divine blessing. This simple phrase transforms mundane activities into acts of worship and invites Allah's mercy into every moment.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Quran, Opening of Surah Al-Fatihah

Ibn Arabi explained that Bismillah contains the essence of the entire Quran—the invocation of the divine name brings the Creator's mercy into every action blessed with these words.
