Ayat al-Kursi - The Verse of the Throne

The greatest verse in the Quran describing Allah's sovereignty, power, and eternal vigilance.

Ayat al-Kursi (آية الكرسي) is verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah, describing Allah's absolute sovereignty over the heavens and earth. It declares that Allah is the Living, the Sustainer, who neither slumbers nor sleeps. His knowledge encompasses all things, and His throne extends over the heavens and earth. The Prophet (PBUH) said it is the greatest verse in the Quran and that reciting it after every prayer guarantees Paradise, while reciting it before sleep provides divine protection. This verse is a powerful invocation against harm and a declaration of Allah's supreme authority.

Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep.

Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255

The scholars explain that Ayat al-Kursi describes Allah's seven essential attributes: life, knowledge, sovereignty, power, will, hearing, and sight—a complete portrait of divine majesty.
