Surah Al-Ikhlas - Pure Monotheism
The declaration of Allah's absolute oneness and transcendence, equal to one-third of the Quran.
Surah Al-Ikhlas (الإخلاص) declares the essence of tawhid in four concise verses: 'Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.' The Prophet (PBUH) said this surah equals one-third of the Quran because it encapsulates the knowledge of Allah's nature. Reciting it three times equals reciting the entire Quran in reward. This surah refutes all forms of polytheism and anthropomorphism, affirming Allah's absolute uniqueness. It is frequently recited for protection and blessing.
Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.
Ibn Taymiyyah explained that this surah contains Allah's description of Himself—the purest and most authentic knowledge of the divine nature available to humanity.
