Trust in Allah - Tawakkul
The balanced reliance on Allah while taking appropriate action, combining faith with effort.
Tawakkul (التوكل) is the Islamic concept of placing complete trust in Allah while still taking necessary action. It is not passive fatalism but active trust—like a farmer who plants seeds and trusts Allah for the harvest. The Quran commands: 'When you have made a decision, put your trust in Allah.' The Prophet (PBUH) taught the bedouin to tie his camel and then trust in Allah. Tawakkul brings peace of mind because outcomes are in Allah's hands, while responsibility remains with the believer. This principle reduces anxiety about results while motivating sincere effort.
And whoever puts their trust in Allah, He will be sufficient for them.
Al-Ghazali described tawakkul as having three levels: trust like the infant with its mother, trust like the patient with the physician, and trust like the corpse with the washer—complete surrender to divine will.

- What Islam says about patience
Tawakkul is the guard against reading sabr as resignation. The Prophet told the bedouin to tie his camel and then trust — effort stays your job, outcome does not. A patience that has stopped acting has drifted out of the definition.
