Modesty is Part of Faith

The teaching that modesty in dress, speech, and behavior is an integral branch of faith.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'Modesty (haya) is a branch of faith.' Haya encompasses shyness, modesty, and decency in all aspects of life—dress, speech, behavior, and even thought. It protects society from shamelessness and preserves dignity. The Prophet was more modest than a virgin in seclusion. Haya prevents one from doing what would be shameful before Allah and people. This teaching applies to both men and women, covering all aspects of public and private conduct. It creates a society based on respect and decorum.

Modesty (haya) is a branch of faith.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Sahih Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith 9

The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'Modesty brings nothing but good.' It is both natural (innate shyness) and acquired (cultivated through practice).
