Al-Ghaffar - The All-Forgiving
Understanding Allah's abundant forgiveness that covers sins repeatedly and completely.
Al-Ghaffar (الغفار) is the intensified form meaning 'repeatedly forgiving' or 'abundantly forgiving.' No matter how many times a servant sins and returns, Allah forgives. The Prophet (PBUH) said if a servant acknowledges their sin and seeks forgiveness, Allah forgives—even if sins reached to the sky. Al-Ghaffar's forgiveness not only pardons but covers and conceals the sin. This attribute inspires hope in Allah's mercy, courage to return after failure, and commitment to improvement. It prevents despair while not encouraging complacency.
And indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
Al-Ghazali taught that Al-Ghaffar's door is always open—the worst sin is despair, believing one cannot be forgiven, for it denies Allah's attribute.

- What Islam says about forgiveness
Al-Ghaffar is an intensive form: not 'forgiving' but 'forgiving repeatedly.' The root also means to cover, so the promise includes concealment of the sin, not only pardon. The tradition is blunt that repetition does not exhaust it — sins reaching the sky are still covered on a sincere return.
