Al-Nur - The Light

Understanding Allah as the light of the heavens and earth, guiding all to truth.

Al-Nur (النور) designates Allah as the Light of the heavens and earth. This light is not physical but the source of all guidance, knowledge, and spiritual illumination. The famous 'Verse of Light' (Ayat al-Nur) describes Allah's light through beautiful metaphors. He guides to His light whom He wills. Understanding Al-Nur inspires seeking spiritual illumination through His revelation and names. The heart that turns to Al-Nur receives guidance; the heart that turns away remains in darkness. All knowledge and clarity ultimately derive from this divine source.

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp.

Quran, Surah An-Nur 24:35

Al-Ghazali wrote 'Mishkat al-Anwar' (The Niche of Lights) exploring this verse, teaching that spiritual enlightenment comes from approaching the divine light through purification and practice.
