Karam - Generosity

The noble quality of giving freely and abundantly, going beyond what is required.

Karam (الكرم) is generosity that gives beyond what is required, motivated by nobility of character rather than obligation. The Prophet (PBUH) was more generous than the wind—giving whatever he had without hesitation. Generosity extends beyond wealth to include time, knowledge, skills, and attention. The Quran promises that whatever is given for Allah's sake will be replaced and multiplied. Karam reflects trust in Al-Razzaq, the Provider.

And whatever you spend in good, it will be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged.

Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:272

The companions described the Prophet as never saying 'no' to anyone who asked him for something—he gave freely without calculation or regret.

  • What Islam says about gratitude

Giving beyond what is required, described as repaid in full. Generosity belongs in this set because someone who believes they were given things tends to hold them loosely.
