Wafa - Loyalty and Faithfulness
The quality of remaining loyal to commitments, relationships, and obligations.
Wafa (الوفاء) is faithfulness and loyalty—keeping one's word, maintaining relationships, and honoring commitments through all circumstances. The Prophet (PBUH) maintained loyalty even to deceased friends, sending gifts to Khadijah's friends years after her death. Wafa includes loyalty to Allah's covenant, to one's word, to family ties, and to beneficial relationships. Betrayal of trust and abandonment of allies are condemned. Wafa creates stable relationships and reliable communities. It extends from marriage to business partnerships to national treaties.
And fulfill every commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever questioned.
The Prophet honored his loyalty to the treaty of Hudaybiyyah even when it seemed disadvantageous, demonstrating that wafa transcends immediate benefit.
