Ihsan - Excellence in All Things

The pursuit of excellence and beauty in worship and all aspects of life.

Ihsan (الإحسان) means excellence, beauty, and perfection in everything one does. The Prophet (PBUH) defined ihsan in worship as 'worshipping Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, know that He sees you.' This consciousness transforms the quality of worship. Ihsan extends to all activities—work done with ihsan is superior, charity given with ihsan is more beautiful, relationships maintained with ihsan are more fulfilling. Islam calls not just to do things but to do them excellently. Ihsan is the highest level of faith, beyond islam (submission) and iman (belief).

Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, know that He sees you.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Sahih Muslim, The Book of Faith, Hadith 8

Sufism is sometimes called the 'science of ihsan'—cultivating the inner awareness and excellence that transforms outward practice into spiritual realization.
