Zuhd - Detachment from Worldly Life
The quality of living simply and not being attached to material possessions.
Zuhd (الزهد) is detachment from worldly preoccupations—not necessarily poverty, but not allowing wealth to occupy the heart. The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'Zuhd in this world is not making lawful things unlawful or wasting wealth, but rather trusting what is in Allah's hands more than what is in your own.' One can be wealthy yet have zuhd, or poor yet attached to the world. Zuhd frees the heart from anxiety and allows focus on what truly matters. It is moderation between monasticism and materialism.
The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.
Ali ibn Abi Talib said: 'Zuhd is not that you should own nothing, but that nothing should own you.' True zuhd is freedom of the heart, not external poverty.
