Salawat - Blessings Upon the Prophet

The practice of sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad that brings divine reward.

Salawat (الصلوات) is sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as commanded in the Quran: 'Indeed, Allah and His angels confer blessing upon the Prophet. O you who believe, ask Allah to bless him and send peace upon him.' The most common formula is 'Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad' (O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad). The Prophet (PBUH) said whoever sends one blessing upon him, Allah sends ten blessings upon that person. Salawat is especially recommended on Fridays, when hearing the Prophet's name, and in du'a. It connects believers to their beloved Prophet.

Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, ask Allah to bless him and send peace upon him.

Quran, Surah Al-Ahzab 33:56

The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'The closest people to me on the Day of Judgment will be those who sent the most blessings upon me.' Salawat is a means of nearness to him.
