Yaqin - Certainty of Faith
The unwavering conviction in the truth of Allah, His revelations, and the unseen.
Yaqin (اليقين) is certainty—firm, unshakeable conviction in the truth of faith. It has levels: 'Ilm al-yaqin (knowledge-based certainty), 'Ayn al-yaqin (witnessed certainty), and Haqq al-yaqin (lived certainty). Like knowing fire burns, seeing fire burn, and being burned—each level is deeper. The Quran says: 'And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).' Yaqin comes through knowledge, experience, and spiritual development. It protects against doubt and gives strength during trials. The companions' yaqin made them unshakeable in persecution.
And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty.
Al-Ghazali described yaqin as the light that dispels the darkness of doubt—when yaqin is strong, the heart is at peace even in storms.
