Uns - Intimacy with Allah
The spiritual state of loving intimacy and comfort in Allah's presence.
Uns (الأنس) is the intimate companionship and comfort found in Allah's presence. Those who reach this station find their greatest joy in worship, remembrance, and drawing near to Allah. Worldly pleasures pale compared to the sweetness of iman and uns. The Prophet (PBUH) found relief from worldly pressures in prayer, saying: 'O Bilal, give us comfort through prayer.' Uns develops through persistent dhikr, night prayer, and sincere devotion. It transforms worship from obligation to delight. The awliya (friends of Allah) taste this intimacy constantly.
O soul at peace, return to your Lord well-pleased and pleasing to Him.
Ibn Arabi described uns as the fruit of mahabbah (love)—when the heart is filled with love of Allah, it finds rest only in His remembrance and presence.
