Hudhur al-Qalb - Presence of Heart
The state of being fully present and attentive in worship and daily life.
Hudhur al-Qalb (حضور القلب) is the presence of heart—being fully attentive and engaged rather than going through motions while the mind wanders. In worship, it means concentrating on the meaning of prayers and the reality of standing before Allah. In daily life, it means mindful engagement with each moment. The Prophet (PBUH) worshipped with complete presence—his companions could hear the sound of weeping from his chest during prayer. Hudhur al-qalb transforms the quality of any activity. It is cultivated through reducing distractions and increasing reflection.
The hearts find rest only in the remembrance of Allah.
Al-Ghazali wrote that prayer without presence of heart is like a body without soul—technically complete but spiritually empty.
