Paryushana - Annual Festival

The most important Jain festival, focused on confession, fasting, and renewal.

Paryushana is an eight (or ten) day festival of fasting, meditation, confession, and spiritual renewal. It concludes with Kshamavani, a day of seeking and granting forgiveness.

In Paryushana, we return to our spiritual center.

  • What Jainism says about forgiveness

Paryushana runs eight or ten days of fasting, confession and study, and is the most important period in the Jain year. Its function for forgiveness is that it is a deadline: whatever you have been carrying gets looked at by a fixed date, not whenever you feel ready.
