Chaak - The Rain God
The god of rain, thunder, and lightning who brings life-giving water.
Chaak wields his lightning axe to split the clouds and release rain. As the bringer of water, he is essential for maize agriculture. Four Chaaks stand at the four directions, each bringing different types of rain. Farmers still invoke Chaak for timely rains.
Chaak strikes his axe against the clouds, and the life-giving waters fall.
Chaak's importance reflects the agricultural dependence on seasonal rains.
