The Long Count
The linear calendar counting days from the creation of this world-age.
The Long Count tracks days from the current creation (August 11, 3114 BCE). It allows dating of events across vast time spans. The completion of the 13 Baktun cycle in 2012 marked the end of one great age and the beginning of another.
The Long Count remembers what the generations forget.
The Long Count allowed Mayans to think in terms of cosmic rather than human time.
