The Ceiba - Sacred Tree
The great ceiba tree as the earthly manifestation of the World Tree.
The ceiba (ya'axche) is the earthly form of the cosmic World Tree. Its roots reach to Xibalba, its trunk exists in our world, and its branches touch the heavens. Villages were often founded near great ceibas, and they were never cut down.
The ceiba stands where all worlds meet; beneath its branches, we are protected.
The ceiba as World Tree demonstrates Mayan sacred geography.
