Copal - Sacred Incense
The burning of copal resin to carry prayers to the gods and purify space.
Copal smoke carries prayers to the heavens and feeds the gods. Its fragrance purifies space and participants, creating sacred atmosphere. No Mayan ceremony is complete without copal. The rising smoke represents the connection between human and divine realms.
Let the copal carry my words to the heavens; let its smoke feed the ancestors.
Copal use demonstrates the material dimension of Mayan spiritual practice.
