Fire Ceremony
The central ritual of burning offerings to communicate with the sacred.
Fire ceremonies are the heart of Mayan ritual practice. Specific items are burned in prescribed order - copal, candles of various colors for different purposes, chocolate, sugar, and other offerings. The fire priest reads messages in the flames and guides the ceremony.
The fire speaks if you know how to listen; it carries and returns.
Fire ceremonies continue as the central ritual practice in modern Maya communities.
