Narada Bhakti Sutras

Love of God's Glory

The first form is devotion through contemplating and glorifying the greatness, majesty, and infinite qualities of the Divine.

Guna-mahatmya-asakti is love kindled by dwelling on the boundless glory of God — His power, wisdom, compassion, and majesty. The devotee in this mood loves to recount and meditate upon the divine attributes and mighty deeds, as the Psalmist magnifies the Lord or the Vedas hymn the splendor of the Divine. This contemplation expands the heart with awe and adoration, lifting the mind above petty concerns into reverence for the infinite. It is often the gateway to devotion, for the recognition of greatness naturally awakens love. The glory-loving devotee finds the universe itself a scripture proclaiming the beloved. This form keeps the soul oriented upward, toward the vastness that humbles and uplifts at once.

Some love Him by glorifying His infinite greatness and majesty.

Devotion through contemplating divine greatness parallels the via eminentiae of Christian theology, which approaches God by magnifying His perfections to infinity, and the Qur'anic litany of the ninety-nine beautiful names.
