Love Through Service
The fifth form is the mood of the servant, who loves God by joyfully serving the beloved and the beloved's creation.
Dasya-asakti is love in the attitude of loving servanthood — the devotee delights to serve the Lord as a faithful servant serves a cherished master, and extends that service to all beings as the children of God. Hanuman, the perfect servant of Rama, is the great exemplar of this mood, finding his entire joy and identity in service. This form purifies the ego by replacing the desire to be served with the desire to serve, and it sanctifies ordinary work as an offering. Service rendered with love becomes worship in action, the path of karma yoga fused with bhakti. The serving devotee finds greatness in humility. In lowering oneself to serve, the devotee is paradoxically lifted into intimacy with the beloved.
Some love Him in the mood of the devoted servant.
The ideal of loving service to God through service to others is a near-universal mystical theme, voiced in the Christian teaching that 'whatever you did for the least of these, you did for Me' and in the Sikh practice of seva.
