Love Through Remembrance

The fourth form is devotion sustained by the continual loving remembrance of God throughout daily life.

Smarana-asakti is love that keeps the beloved constantly in mind — recalling God's name, form, qualities, and deeds at all times, so that remembrance becomes the unbroken background of consciousness. This is the practice Krishna commends in the Gita when He says, 'Remember Me at all times and fight' (8.7), uniting action with continual recollection. Such remembrance gradually displaces worldly preoccupation and keeps the heart bathed in the beloved's presence. It can be practiced anywhere, requiring no external means, and so suits the active person living amid duties. The remembering devotee carries an inner temple wherever they go. Over time, what begins as deliberate effort ripens into spontaneous, ceaseless awareness of the Divine.

Some love Him through ceaseless remembrance.

Narada, Narada Bhakti Sutras, Sutra 82

Continual loving remembrance closely parallels the Sufi dhikr and Brother Lawrence's Christian 'practice of the presence of God,' all of which seek to make awareness of the Divine the unbroken ground of ordinary activity.
