Love as Self-Surrender
The ninth form is the complete offering of oneself to God, holding nothing back as one's own.
Atma-nivedana-asakti is the love of total self-surrender, in which the devotee gives up all sense of separate ownership and offers body, mind, and very self to the Divine, living thereafter only as an instrument of the beloved's will. This is the culmination Krishna invites in the Gita's final teaching: 'Abandon all duties and take refuge in Me alone' (18.66). In this surrender the burden of egoism falls away, and a profound peace replaces the anxiety of self-management. The surrendered devotee no longer asks 'what do I want?' but 'what does my beloved will through me?' This form is the gateway from effort into grace. Having given everything, the devotee discovers they have lost nothing and gained the All.
And some love Him through the complete surrender of the self.
Total self-surrender, called prapatti in the Vaishnava tradition, parallels the Islamic meaning of islam itself as surrender to God and the Christian counsel to lose one's life in order to find it.
