Ask and Embla - First Humans
The gods created the first humans from two trees: Ask (ash) and Embla (elm).
Odin, Vili, and Ve found two trees on the shore and created the first humans from them. Odin gave breath, Vili gave intelligence and movement, Ve gave form and senses. Humans are thus connected to both the divine and the natural world.
From Ask and Embla came all the children of men.
Human creation from trees connects humanity to the World Tree itself.
