Ymir - The Primordial Giant
From the first being Ymir, slain by the gods, the world was created from his body.
Ymir was the first being, formed where fire and ice met in Ginnungagap. When Odin and his brothers slew Ymir, they created the world from his body: his flesh became earth, blood became seas, bones became mountains, skull became sky.
From Ymir's flesh was fashioned the earth, from his blood the billowing sea.
Ymir's sacrifice teaches that creation requires transformation of primordial matter.
