Ginnungagap - The Primordial Void
Before creation, only the yawning void existed between the realms of fire and ice.
In the beginning was Ginnungagap, the great void. To the north lay Niflheim, realm of ice; to the south Muspelheim, realm of fire. Where their essences met in the void, creation began. Ginnungagap teaches that creation emerges from the meeting of opposites.
There was neither sand nor sea, nor cool waves; earth was not found nor heaven above; Ginnungagap was, but grass was nowhere.
Ginnungagap represents the potential from which all creation emerges.
