The Alfar - Ancestral Spirits
Elves (alfar) were often identified with honored ancestors who dwelt in mounds.
The Norse alfar (elves) were often ancestral spirits dwelling in burial mounds. They were offered to at alfablot, especially at the beginning of winter. Ancestors who lived well could become protective spirits of the land and family.
The ancient ones dwell in the mounds; honor them with offerings and they bring blessings.
The connection between elves and ancestors reflects Norse ancestor veneration.
