Tori-no-Ichi - Rooster Market Festival

The November festival for prosperity and good fortune in business.

Tori-no-Ichi is celebrated on rooster days in November at shrines dedicated to Otori-sama, the kami of prosperity. Merchants purchase kumade (decorated bamboo rakes) to 'rake in' good fortune for the coming year. It is especially popular with business owners.

With the kumade, we gather the fortunes of the coming year.
