Kirat Karni - Honest Livelihood

Earning one's living through honest, ethical means is a sacred duty and spiritual practice.

Kirat Karni is one of the three pillars of Sikh life. It teaches that honest labor dignifies the soul, while exploitation and dishonesty corrupt it. Work becomes worship when done ethically.

Those who have earned their living by honest labor, and shared it with others, they alone know the true path.

  • What Sikhism says about truth and lying

Kirat Karni makes honest earning a pillar of the religion, standing level with prayer. Truth is measured here in how the money arrived, not in what you say about it afterwards.
