Truthful Business

Commerce should be conducted truthfully, with fair dealings and honest weights and measures.

Sikh ethics extend to all business practices. Cheating customers, giving false measures, or misrepresenting goods are spiritual offenses as serious as any other sin.

Practice truth, contentment and kindness; this is the most excellent way of life.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Granth Sahib, Ang 51

These ethical standards made Sikh traders known for their trustworthiness.

False measures and misrepresented goods are called spiritual offences as serious as any other sin. This is a tradition telling shopkeepers and farmers that the scales are a religious matter.
